The Song Poet: A Memoir of My Father by Kao Kalia Yang tells the story of Yang’s father, Bee Yang, a Hmong refugee in Minnesota. The book is excellently written. It feels sentimental and warm, and Yang writes in a beautiful and natural manner. The non-fiction works contains both narration and dialogue. Yang employs vivid description, and she brings her pages to life through her wise use of words. The author is a masterful storyteller, and I found myself captivated by the story of her father and her family. The book is a great contribution to American and Minnesotan literature.
