Healing the Scars of Addiction: Reclaiming Your Life and Moving into a Healthy Future by Gregory L. Jantz, PhD, is a book about overcoming addiction. It is a good book for those who have struggled with addiction, as well as those who would like to learn more about the struggle of addiction. The book has a nice structure to it, exploring whether someone is addicted, what different types of addiction are, and how they can start putting their life back together. I like how the author discusses the role that secrecy plays in addiction, as well as the role that trust plays in one’s freedom from addiction. One of my favorite parts of the book examines people’s fears, such as their fear of change, fear of relapse, and fear of rejection. Lantz shows that addiction sometimes has deep scars, but that addicts have hope and the promise of a life free from addiction.
