Forever Mom: What to Expect When You’re Adopting by Mary Ostyn is a wonderful memoir about family, love, and adoption. The book takes us through Ostyn’s adoption journey, showing the joys and trials along the way, as she and her husband adopt six children – two boys from Korea and four girls from Ethiopia.
This is a great book for individuals who have adopted, are interested in adopting, or are just curious about the adoption process. Ostyn’s story is a captivating one, and if you’re like me, you’ll be constantly turning the next page to see what happens on her journey.
Forever Mom taught me more about the adoption process, especially reading about Ostyn’s challenges adopting domestically. The book deals with the realities of adoption and parent-child attachment, but it also shows how wonderful adoption can be, which will hopefully inspire more families to consider adoption. A nice aspect of the book is that readers are not only acquainted with Ostyn’s family, but we also get to know the stories of other adoptive families through anecdotes provided through the book.
It is well-written, and though the book may be most interesting to Christians interested in adoption, anyone looking for a dose of encouragement will be glad to have it.
