How to Get Dressed by Alison Freer is a very handy guidebook. Sure, everyone knows how to “get dressed,” but this book is full of tips and tricks for making your clothes look great. Freer is a costume designer, and she uses her insider knowledge to share some clothes-related secrets people may not have considered.
I am not that into sewing or fashion, but the tips in this book can be used by anyone, regardless of whether you’re a seamstress or fashionista. I liked Freer’s chapter on “dumb rules” that are meant to be broken. Even though Freer gives out so many ideas throughout the book, she also devotes enough detail to each idea, which is nice. Also, it is neat that Freer does not only talk about how to “get dressed,” but also how to maintain these clothes, and she talks about tips related to washing and drying. I thought this book was really fun to read; it’s a different type of book, and even though I’ve read some books on costume designing, I have never come across a book quite like this unique one.
I received a review copy from Blogging for Books. The book is available here on Amazon.
