In popular culture, Jesus Christ is portrayed in a number of different ways. And in The Original Jesus: Trading the Myths We Create for Who the Savior Is, Daniel Darling examines some of these different portrayals. If you are a Christian in America, you will probably be familiar with the various depictions of Jesus Christ mentioned in the book, and you might even see some of them in your church. Two of my favorite chapters were “Dr. Phil Jesus,” which talks about how people use Jesus as a “Five-Step Plan,” as well as “Prosperity Jesus,” in which Christians’ beliefs will bring them prosperity. Darling’s content is thoughtful and engrossing, and it is interesting to see how people’s views of Jesus are sometimes shaped by culture (and pop culture). The Original Jesus will be available on Amazon on August 25, and can be pre-ordered now.
