Prayers for New Brides: Putting on God’s Armor After the Wedding Dress by Jennifer O. White is a collection of prayer prompts and passages of advice for new brides. This Christian book is best suited for newly married complementarian women, and it covers a wide range of topics, from recognizing the significance of your marriage, to honoring your spouse, to partnering with God to defend your husband. The book is filled with prayer ideas for young wives, and at the end of each chapter, White includes “Calls to Action,” such as asking the reader to pray or journal on a specific quote, or talking about a particular topic with your husband.

The book incorporates a nice mix of advice, Scripture references, and relevant quotes. My favorite chapter was “See Yourself Through God’s Eyes,” in which the Call to Action featured a wonderful list of verses that discuss who we are in relation to God (i.e. “I am a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17). I also especially liked Chapter 18, which talked about expectations in marriage. Prayers for New Brides can be used as a devotional for young brides, and White definitely shares a lot of wisdom with her readers.
