Grieving the Child I Never Knew

Grieving the Child I Never Knew: A Devotional for Comfort in the Loss of Your Unborn or Newly Born Child by Kathe Wunneberg is a collection of stories and encouraging anecdotes designed for parents who are grieving the loss of an unborn or newborn baby. The book is very comforting, and the end of each devotional includes “Steps Toward Healing” questions to process your thoughts and feelings. The end of the book also features a Discussion Guide with additional questions, so that readers can reflect on the book’s content.

Kathe Wunneberg shares her own stories of miscarriage and grief, as well as the stories of other grieving women, including those in the Bible. It is great that Wunneberg has taken this essential topic and turned it into a Bible devotional study. I especially liked the section, “A Prayer Guide for Special Days,” which includes relevant prayers taken from Bible verses that you can personalize yourself. For example, one of the shorter prayers that Wunneberg includes is Hebrew 12:12, “Let ___ fix ___’s eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

Grieving the Child I Never Knew covers so many angles regarding the loss of a baby, from dealing with Mother’s Day to grieving a child that others may have never even knew existed. It is a very comforting book.
