In the fiction read The Midwife’s Choice by Delia Parr, midwife Martha Cade must learn to juggle work and family, all while learning life lessons about faith, hope, and love. The book is set in 1831 in Trinity, Pennsylvania. Many of the Christian historical fiction books I come across focus on a teenage or twentysomething protagonist, so it was great to read something in this genre with an “older” character.
With the woman-in-medicine theme, the book reminded me a bit of Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman – though the story is completely different. Like most other Bethany House titles, the writing is strong, and the plot moves at a fluid pace.
