I love The Berenstain Bears books, so I was very excited to receive The Berenstain Bears Mother’s Day Blessings by Mike Berenstain, son of Stan and Jan Berenstain. I do not have another children’s book focusing on Mother’s Day, and I found the theme to be very unique. The drawings are cute, with an old-fashioned flair, and I enjoyed seeing the drawings of the Berenstains’ old timey car. The color scheme is nice, and I especially liked the pink tones, including pinkish trees, which remind me of Mother’s Day.

Some of my favorite pages in the book were when the Berenstains were in church, and the kids hear the minister say that their mother is like “a vine in your vineyard…full of branches”; Mike Berenstain’s drawing of the kids imagining their mother wrapped in branches and leaves is quite funny!

The book sends a positive message, showing how children can be thankful for their wonderful mothers. The discussion questions on the last page of the book will help young readers reflect on the story’s meaning. A minor, but nice element of the book is the front page with the line “This Berenstain Bears book belongs to ______,” where a child can write his or her name. I am sure children will love owning this book.

You can find the book here.
