The Magnolia Duchess by Beth White is a historical fiction book about Fiona Lanier, a young woman who lives on the Gulf Coast settlement of Navy Cove. The book covers the years 1814 and 1815, and besides being a lighthearted love story, it also provides the reader with a good deal of historical information. I recently toured a historic home museum in Louisiana where a French-Creole family lived in the 1800s during Spanish rule, so I found it interesting to read a story with some similar themes. The book is 341 pages, but it moves fast and is a relatively quick read.
