Read with Me Bible for Little Toddlers, written by Doris Wynbeek Rikkers and illustrated by Dennis G. Jones, is written in a simple format for young children. The pages are thick; though they are not as thick as a typical board book, they are still somewhat flexible. This storybook Bible tells children about Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath, Jonah, Jesus’ birth, Jesus’ ministry, Jesus calming the storm, and Jesus ascending to Heaven. The book skips over Jesus’ crucifixion, which I think is a wise choice, because toddlers will not be able to understand the meaning of Jesus’ death.
The drawings of people resemble cute caricutures. The various characters have very good facial expressions, and their expressions really match the story at hand. My favorite drawing is “A Day in the Life of Jesus,” which shows Jesus lovingly helping people. The Read with Me Bible for Toddlers reminds me of My Bedtime Story Bible for Little Ones by Jean E. Syswerda, though if I were to buy just one, I would choose The Read with Me Bible. If you are looking for a longer storybook Bible geared towards older children, I would recommend I AM: 40 Reasons to Trust God by Diane Stortz.
