Loving My Actual Life: An Experiment in Relishing What’s Right in Front of Me by Alexandra Kuykendall follows the author’s nine-month journey of embracing the joy in ordinary life by focusing on one aspect of life each month, such as health or home organization. My favorite chapter was the one in which the author focused on creativity. The book is written in a diary format, as Kuykendall chronicles what happens on most of the days in each month. It is interesting seeing the progress that Kuykendall makes regarding her specific goals, and what she learns during each month. Kuykendall provides the reader with reflection questions at the end of each chapter, allowing the reader to compare their own experiences to the author’s journey. I think that this book may inspire people to conduct “mini-experiments” related to finding joy in their own lives.
