Intended for Evil: A Survivor’s Story of Love, Faith, and Courage in the Cambodian Killing Fields by Lee Sillars is a nonfiction book focusing on a tragic time in history that should not be forgotten. The author tells the story of Radha Manickam, a Christian who lived under the merciless rule of Khmer Rouge. It is reminiscent of reading an account from the Holocaust, as Rouge’s regime turned into a holocaust of its own, cruelly killing 1.7 million people. (This time period is commonly referred to as the Cambodian Holocaust). Through his extensive research, Sillars captures Manickam’s incredible story of survival, while also providing historical information about Cambodia in the 1970s. Intended for Evil is a story of faith, hope, and courage.
