Tough As They Come by SSG Travis Mills is the autobiographical true story of a wounded warrior who lost both his arms and his legs in an IED blast in Afghanistan. Mills is one of only five soldiers who have survived quadruple amuputee injuries after being wounded during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – and his account of overcoming extreme obstacles is one of hope and perseverance.

Mills relays stories about both his career and his family. He is a young man – Mills was injured at age 25 in 2012 – but he has already seen and learned so much. His story is not only highly motivational, but he himself actively motivates others through speaking and writing about his experiences.

Tough As They Come is available as a hardcover, paperback, e-book, and audiobook (read by the author himself). The paperback version of the book contains eight pages of relevant color photographs; the collection includes childhood photos of Travis as well as pictures of Travis’ wife, Kelsey, and daughter, Chloe. Through the text, it is evident that Kelsey is a very supportive wife, and the Mills have a lovely family.

If you are wanting to read multiple books about the experiences of amputees, you may want to check out Brett Parks: Miracle Man. Travis and Brett’s stories are very different, but they are both examples of men who triumphed over adversity.
