God Bless Our Baby, written by Hannah C. Hall and illustrated by Steve Whitlow, is a children’s book perfect for a toddler or preschooler who is about to get (or now has) a new baby sibling. I love it! Reading the book is a great way to reinforce to a child that a new sibling is on the way – and that the new addition is a wonderful blessing. Though I received this book for review, it is the kind of book that I would buy if I saw it in the store. (It is currently available for $7.49 on Amazon.)
The book is a board book, though the pages are relatively thin for a board book. The book contains 20 pages, and each set of two pages depicts a different scene, showing animal families with their new babies (or babies in utero). One stellar page shows a family with adopted children; two polar bear parents look at their newborn bear (perhaps a grizzly) as their other children – a brown bear, a gray bear, and a panda – gaze on.
Whitlow’s illustrations are artistically beautiful, and just looking at them makes me want to get out some colored pencils and draw!
