I previously loved reviewing Zonderkidz’ book Ready, Set, Find Christmas – so much that when I gave it away as a gift, I bought another copy to keep. Now I am happy to add Ready, Set, Find Easter to my collection!
Ready, Set, Find Easter is a children’s story and activity book. It is a board book, though the pages are a bit thinner and more flexible than some board books. The book has ten pages, and each set of two pages features a brief narrative and picture key on the left-facing page and an illustration on the right-facing page. For example, one left-facing page discusses how Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, along with a picture key of eight things to find in the illustration on the right-facing page: bowls, palm branch, bag, flour sack, orange, palm tree, dog, and boy.
The book is designed in a simplistic manner, and would probably be best for 2 and 3-year-olds. The characters look like cartoonized clay figures. The sentences are constructed at a very basic level, such as: Jesus and his friends were having supper together. They shared bread and wine. But Jesus said that one of his friends was going to betray him. (The authors also include the passage reference, Matthew 26: 17 – 30.)
The best thing about this book is that it gets children interested in the Easter story, by combining the Biblical account of Easter with the fun activity of locating pictures in the illustrations.
