How to Be Married: What I Learned from Real Women on Five Continents About Surviving My First (Really Hard) Year of Marriage is a memoir and sociological study by Jo Piazza that examines marriage and what makes it work. My favorite parts of the book were those focusing on Jo and her husband Nick; Jo’s energy and wit reminds me of a young Nora Ephron. I also enjoyed reading about different women from various parts of the world, and reflecting upon how their cultures may influence the partners they choose and the marriages they make. You don’t have to be engaged or on the road to the altar to enjoy this book; ultimately, it is a study of humankind.
