A Chance at Forever by Melissa Jagears is a novel set in 1900s Kansas that focuses on Mercy McClain, a likable woman who works at the local orphanage. Mercy is trying to secure a certain teaching position, but so is her former classmate, Aaron Firebrook.
Jaegars’ writing has a steady pace, and she writes with solid description, making it easy for the reader to visualize her scenes. I admired Mercy’s goodheartedness and the passion for her work. The book allows the reader to reflect upon themes of faith and forgiveness. It makes you think about what it means to trust someone, and whether people can really change.
