The novel Between Two Shores by Jocelyn Green is the story of Catherine Duval, the daughter of a Mohawk mother and French father. Set in 1759 Montreal, the book is well-researched and provides an interesting historical account through the lens of fiction. The book is a captivating, exciting read, making history come alive before our eyes. I liked observing Catherine’s world. We see strength and perseverance in Green’s characters, as well as strength in the writing of the story itself; Green is a naturally skilled writer, and she gives us a powerfully and beautifully written novel.
