Some books can be described as page-turners. But when I read Amber C. Haines’ book Wild in the Hollow: On Chasing Desire and Finding the Broken Road Home, I often didn’t want to turn the page. I wanted to savor the words, to retain the page’s lyrical atmosphere, and to hold onto the poetic feeling that the author created.
In Wild in the Hollow, Haines talks about her relationship with God while chronicling major life events, including her marriage, children, and ministry. She also discusses serious topics relating to her life story, including abortion and infidelity. Haines writes with both honesty and warmth, and she paints her words as if she was writing a prosaic novel. From beginning to end, Wild in the Hollow is a touching, heartfelt, and captivating memoir.
