Looking In: Being an Expat Tween

Looking In: Being an Expat Tweet by Sainoor Premji is a self-help book for expatriate tweens between the ages of 9 and 12. This is a wonderful concept for a book, and I have never seen anything quite like it. Parts of the book function like a workbook, where tweens can share their thoughts and ideas. For expatriate tweens who feel a sense of isolation at times, this book will remind them that they have a firm identity in who they are. One of my favorite chapters was “S’agapo (Greek for I Love You),” because it talked about loving yourself. I like the way that the author talks to the reader; she doesn’t “dumb down” her content because she’s talking to tweens, but rather writes in a way that is respectful towards the child reader. It would be a fun book for parents and tweens to discuss together.
