Starry-Eyed: Seeing Grace in the Unfolding Constellation of Life and Motherhood by Mandy Arioto is a book about motherhood – but even more than that, it’s a book about life. It’s about searching for faith, overcoming challenges, and finding light in a dark world. The book is very well-written, including both funny parenting stories and deep life lessons.
Arioto reminds readers that life and parenting are beautiful and complex. The end of each of the 28 chapters includes a “Q & R” section, where Arioto features questions such as, “At the change of each season, are you willing to pause and audit what is not working in your life, and what beauty and goodness needs to be added in?”
The mystical cover almost resembles that of a novel, and it reflects the melodic feel of Arioto’s words. Her writing is pretty: it has an elegant flow to it. Though the author gives many glimpses into her life, Starry-Eyed is not a memoir, and is more of a Christian self-help book. If you’re looking for a lighthearted but thought-provoking book about navigating the trenches of parenting, other books, such as Sand in my Sandwich or Mommy Needs a Raise, may be what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a book about parenting and personal discovery, check out Starry-Eyed.
