The Lord’s Prayer: Words of Hope and Happiness

The Lord’s Prayer: Words of Hope and Happiness is a Christian children’s book that consists of commentary by Rick Warren and illustrations by Richard Jesse Watson. Each page includes part of the Lord’s Prayer, along with a corresponding message. The second set of pages, for example, shows the baptism of a sweet baby boy, along with the words “Hallow be thy name” and words by Warren, which say, “God is good to me, so I honor him. I honor God’s name by loving him, trusting him, obeying him, and thanking him! Thank you, God, for being so good to me!” Each of Warren’s messages helps children better understand that particular part of the Lord’s Prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer would be a nice book for parents and children to read together – and it could also be used as a tool to show the importance of prayer. An alternate way to read the book is to skip over Warren’s corresponding messages, and focus solely on reading the Lord’s Prayer while looking at the pictures. The children portrayed in the book are absolutely beautiful, and the illustrations feature children of a wide range of ethnicities. Watson’s drawings almost appear as if they are photographs that have been turned into paintings. The book has a heartwarming feel to it.
