God’s Gift

God’s Gift is a gorgeous aquatic-themed children’s book, written by Lee Ann Mancini and illustrated by Dan Sharp. The story focuses on a Christian sea turtle and a Jewish starfish, who come to realize that Christmas and Hanukkah are not about getting presents, but about celebrating the gift God has given to his children.

The drawings in the book are simply beautiful; they are the kind of illustrations a reader just wants to keep looking at! The book sends many positive lessons for children, and Mancini shows how people of different faiths can be friends and respect each other’s different worldviews. Both of the book’s protagonists, Christian and Jacob, have attentive parents who help them resolve their problems.

God’s Gift is part of the “Adventure of the Sea Kids” series, which also includes Fast Freddy, I’m Not Afraid, What a Bragger, and A Servant Like Jesus. Each of these books is well-written and constructed in a colorful, aesthetically pleasing manner, so it is great that the series now has a Christmas and Hannakuh themed book to add to the collection.

Through the series, Mancini has created a lively, intricate world, where the sea creatures live as humans do. The book has no many nice little touches; for example, we see that the sea creatures decorate the outside of their houses with holiday lights, and drink hot cocoa with marshmallows for a winter treat.

Mancini and Sharp have done a great job.
