Braving It: A Father, a Daughter, and an Unforgettable Journey into the Alaskan Wild by James Campbell chronicles Campbell and his daughter Aidan’s trip to the remote Artic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. It is a unique book; I have certainly never read a travel diary recapping a father-daughter trip into the Alaskan wilderness!
Braving It is also an educational book, giving the reader a glimpse into a far different world than most people live in, with wild animals and geographic obstacles. Campbell includes dialogue that further brings his story to life, and it was nice to see Campbell’s close relationship with his daughter. Though this is not a trek that I would want to make myself, I enjoyed soaking in the scenery from a safe distance.
