A Rebel Heart by Beth White is a historical fiction novel set in Mississippi five years after the Civil War. The story grabbed me from the beginning, perhaps because of the book’s sense of adventure and intrigue. I enjoyed following the journey of the protagonist, Selah Daughtry; the book moved at a nice pace. I was initially attracted to the book because it took place in Mississippi, and I was happy that White set the book in different locations across Mississippi. The novel is historically educational, but also has a nice mix of action and Christian romance.
